Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Pulley/Balancer

SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED (or equivalents)

J-37096, Flywheel holding tool.

^

J-24420-B, Torsional damper remover.

^

J-29113, Torsional damper installer.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Serpentine drive belt.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Right tire and wheel assembly then the engine splash shield.
4. Starter.
5. Crankshaft damper bolt using J-37096.
6. Crankshaft pulley bolts and pulley.
7. Crankshaft damper using J-24420-B.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Coat front cover seal contact area (on damper) with engine oil.
2. Apply sealant GM P/N 9985059 (or equivalent) to keyway of damper before installing.
3. Place damper in position over key on crankshaft and then push damper onto crankshaft.
4. J-29113 onto crankshaft and pull damper into position and then remove J-29113.
5. Crankshaft pulley and retaining bolts and tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft lbs).
6. Crankshaft damper bolt using J-37096 and tighten to 105 Nm (78 ft lbs).
7. Starter.
8. Right tire and wheel assembly then the engine splash shield.
9. Lower vehicle and install serpentine drive belt.
