Grand Prix V6-204 3.4L DOHC (1992)
Auxiliary Shaft Seal: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1.
Verify the relationship of intermediate sprocket to front cover.
2.
Raise and support vehicle.
3.
Remove starter motor and install flywheel holding tool No. J-37096, or equivalent.
4.
Lower vehicle.
5.
Rotate engine and position to factory alignment marks. Remove sprocket bolt and washer.
6.
Mark position of sprocket on nose end of intermediate shaft.
7.
Remove secondary timing belt as outlined under SECONDARY TIMING BELT SERVICE.
8.
Reverse center bolt and engage self-tapping screws of sprocket remover tool No. J-38616, or equivalent, into three equally spaced holes on belt
sprocket and remove intermediate shaft timing belt sprocket.
9.
Remove intermediate shaft belt, sprocket and oil seal.
INSTALLATION
1.
Install oil seal using seal installer tool No. J-38619, or equivalent.
2.
Lubricate seal surfaces of intermediate shaft sprocket.
3.
Align timing marks and install sprocket into position engaging locating tangs of sprocket into mating sockets of chain sprocket.
4.
Verify engagement by measuring from face of belt sprocket to front cover. If measurement is more than 1.65 inches, tangs are not engaged.
5.
Install O-ring in position on end of intermediate shaft.
6.
Lightly lubricate threads of sprocket bolt and torque bolt to specification.
7.
Raise and support vehicle. Remove flywheel holding tool and install starter assembly.
8.
Lower vehicle and install secondary timing belt and covers.
