J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller

J 36541 Steering Wheel Puller Legs

-

Or Equivalents

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Position ignition in the "OFF" position.
2. Disable Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. 
3. Inflator module. 
4. Scribe an alignment mark on steering wheel hub in line with slash mark on steering shaft.
5. Loosen steering wheel shaft nut, positioning it flush with end of shaft.
6. Assemble J 1859-A and J 36541 on steering wheel and pull wheel loose from shaft.
7. Steering wheel shaft nut.
8. Steering wheel off steering shaft.

INSTALL OR CONNECT          

NOTICE:  Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application.
The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require
thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors)
on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may
damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you
avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Route SIR connector through steering wheel.
2. Align the scribe mark on steering wheel with slash mark on steering shaft and install steering wheel.
3. Steering wheel shaft nut.

Tighten steering wheel shaft nut to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).

4. Inflator module. 
5. Enable SIR system.

Inspect:
-

Operation of horn and steering wheel.

-

Operation of steering wheel controls, if equipped.
