Mode Display Table
The trip calculator shall calculate and display the total amount of fuel used since the last fuel used reset. Fuel used shall be the amount of fuel used since
last reset, accumulated from liters of fuel over real time converted to gallons or liters as required. Pressing RESET while in the fuel used display mode
shall reset the fuel used accumulator to zero. If the amount of fuel used since reset is greater than 99.9 gallons (or its metric equivalent, if required), 99.9
shall continue to be displayed until reset.
Range
Mode Display Table
Range is calculated as the product of the Average Fuel Economy (AFE) multiplied by the amount of fuel remaining in the tank (AFE times the fuel
remaining). When a range of less than 40 miles is calculated the low fuel range mode is entered, except during the first ten miles following the AFE
reset. During these first ten miles, the low fuel range mode (LO FUEL message) shall not he entered and the range of values shall be 0-999.
During the low fuel range mode the numeric display will spell LO FUEL and extinguish the MI or km units. After the low fuel range mode is first
entered, the message shall be flashed at a 2 Hz rate for 60 seconds then displayed continuously. If the range mode was not selected by the driver upon
entering the low fuel range mode, then the trip calculator shall override the mode being displayed and select the range mode. The driver may however
override the low fuel range mode by selecting another mode. If the ignition is cycled the trip calculator shall re-enter it as if it calculated it for the first
time.
The fuel sender input is a voltage vs. gallons (fuel level) curve generated by a 40 to 250 ohm variable sender located in the fuel tank and pulled up to
ignition in the Powertrain Control Module. From there it is sent via class II serial data line communications to the trip computer. The RANGE algorithm
must filter the fuel tank sender input over at least a 2 minute average. Hysteresis shall be applied where applicable. The reset button has no effect while
in range mode. Range is reset by an AFE reset.
Oil Life Indicator

The trip calculator shall read oil life from the serial data line, The RESET button shall transmit the reset signal back to the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM). The trip calculator shall display the number received from the PCM. When 0 percent oil life is reached, the trip calculator shall generate an
audible beep and flash the message for 60 seconds, afterwards the message will then be displayed continuously. If the oil life mode was not selected by
the driver, upon entering the low oil life mode the trip calculator shall override the mode being displayed and select the oil life mode. The driver may
however override the low oil life mode by selecting another mode. If the ignition is cycled, the trip calculator shall re-enter it as if it calculated it for the
first time.
