Recreational "Flat" Towing (All 4 Wheels on Ground)

Models: 
1995-96 Chevrolet Cavalier
1995-96 Pontiac Sunfire
with 4T4OE 4-Speed Automatic Transaxle (RPO MN4)

This bulletin is being revised to change Step # 8 in the Towing Procedure. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 53-01-05 (Section 0 - General
Information).

The above listed vehicles have revised "flat" towing (all 4 wheels on ground) capabilities. These vehicles have the capability to be "flat" towed, in a
forward direction for an unlimited distance, at a maximum speed of 55 miles per hour.

Towing Procedure

1.

Firmly set the parking brake on both the tow vehicle and the vehicle being towed.

2.

Place the transaxle of the towed vehicle in "PARK".

3.

Securely attach the vehicle being towed to the tow vehicle.

4.

Remove the "CLS/PCM" fuse from the fuse box of the towed vehicle to prevent battery drain.

5.

Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it one notch forward into the "OFF/UNLOCK" position. This unlocks the steering and allows for
proper movement of the front wheels and tires during towing.

6.

Release the parking brake only after the vehicle being towed is firmly attached to the tow vehicle.

7.

Place the transaxle of the towed vehicle in "NEUTRAL".

8.

In order to operate the towed vehicle's brake lights while being towed:
Splice the tow vehicle's brake light system into the towed vehicle's brake light system at circuit 17.
