Navigation System: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

A Symptoms - Navigation Systems

SYMPTOMS -  NAVIGATION SYSTEMS

IMPORTANT:  The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.

1. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to Navigation System Description and Operation.
2. Perform the Diagnostic System Check -  Navigation System before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:

There are no codes set.

The navigation radio can communicate with the GPS antenna.  See: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview/Diagnostic System Check -

3. Review the Navigation Diagnostic Self- Test Features before using the Symptoms Tables in order to verify the navigation system is receiving all

the necessary inputs from the vehicle sensors.

Visual/Physical Inspection
-

Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Navigation System.

-

Inspect the system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.

Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions.

Symptom List
Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:
-

No Global Positioning System (GPS) Reception

-

Navigation System -  Voice Guidance Inoperative or Degraded Quality

-

Navigation Radio does not read the map disc. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List.  See:

The display is inoperative, discolored or not clear. Refer to Navigation System Display Inoperative.

Navigation Radio buttons do not function properly. Refer to Navigation Diagnostic Self-Test Features.  See: Reading and Clearing Diagnostic
