Clutch Release Bearing: Service and Repair

Release Bearing Replacement 

Removal Procedure 

1. Remove the manual transaxle from the vehicle. Refer to Transaxle Replacement in Manual Transmission -MK5 or Transaxle Replacement in

Manual Transmission - MTN.

2. Remove the clutch release bearing and the clutch release fork at the same time.
3. Remove the clutch release bearing from the clutch release fork.
4. Clean the clutch release bearing using a clean dry solvent free cloth.
5. Inspect the clutch release bearing for external damage and smooth rotation. Replace the clutch release bearing for the following conditions:

The bearings do not operate smoothly.

Installation Procedure 

1. Lubricate the clutch release bearing using a thin coat of wheel bearing grease of GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 9930337) or the equivalent.
2. Install the clutch release bearing to the clutch release fork.
3. Install the clutch release bearing and the clutch release fork assembly onto the transaxle assembly.
4. Install the manual transaxle from the vehicle. Refer to Transaxle Replacement in Manual Transmission -MK5 or Transaxle Replacement in

Manual Transmission - MTN.
