Concern: 
Clicking or grating noises during steering.

Information: 
Clicking or grating noises can occur in the area of the upper spring strut mount when the wheels are steered with the vehicle stationary, e.g. when
parking.

Work Procedure: 
Determine, which type of noise, is occurring during steering:

Clicking Noise: 
This noise occurs shortly before turning the steering wheel to full lock. A loose strut piston rod nut causes it (Figure 1, item 1).

Repair: 
Tighten the strut piston rod fastening nut to the specified torque.

Grating Noise: 
This noise occurs when steering movements are made around the center position (straight-ahead position) to full lock position.

Repair: 
Replace the stop plates. (Figure 1, items 2 and 4) with new version, part number 996 343 107 03.
