Subject:
Porsche Special Tool for Camshaft Timing
9551 - 9552 - 9553 - 9554
ATTENTION: Service Manager 1 Service Technician
Models Affected:
911 Carrera, Model Year 1995
Concern:
Due to tolerances in the hole pattern of the camshaft housing in isolated cases, a different procedure for adjusting the valve timing may be necessary.
General Information:
On page 15-25 in the Workshop Manual for the type 911 Carrera M.Y. 1995, the special tools 9551 and 9552 are shown with an elongated bore (6 mm).
This elongated bore is for centering the tool to the camshaft housing using special bolt 9554.
However, the special tools which were delivered had a 7 mm diameter bore instead of the elongated bore and two 6 mm bores.
Due to tolerances in the hole pattern of the camshaft housing, a different procedure for adjusting the valve timing may be necessary. A new adjustment
description for the camshaft timing will be sent to you with the 5/94 Supplement of the Workshop Manual. Through this change an increased accuracy of
the valve timing is being obtained.
Repair Information:
1.
Should the camshaft timing tools not fit with the two (2) special bolts (as outlined in the 5/94 Supplement of the Workshop Manual), only one
special bolt and a standard MS bolt should be used.
2.
In extreme cases (where greater tolerance in the hole pattern is present), three standard MS bolts should be used.
3.
Before special tools 9551 and 9552 are installed, the bolt holes should be checked for possible burrs. The special bolts must turn easily in the bolt
holes.
