Suppressor kit for AM Reception Noise
Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (996)
Model Year:
As of 1999 (X)
Concern:
Radio interference/ticking noises on AM band.
Information:
As of October 20, 1998 production and the VINs listed below, the 911 Carrera (996) is fitted with an interference suppressor (in the speedometer "A"
signal to the instrument cluster) to minimize the presence of audible noise with the radio on AM band. This noise is usually noticed as a ticking that
increases with road speed, only when AM band is selected, and is caused by the speedometer "A" signal from the ABS system.
Suppressor installed in production from VINs:
WPOAA2 99 3 XS 62 4226 Coupe
WP0CA2 99 3 XS 65 2715 Cabriolet
On vehicles produced prior to the above listed VINs, a suppressor kit can be retrofitted for AM band ticking noise complaints. The retrofit consists of
installing an "in-line" suppressor in the speed input signal to the instrument cluster.
