It is only possible to remove the bearing cover with the engine installed in vehicles with manual transmission.

In Tiptronic vehicles, the complete engine/transmission unit must be removed.

The same sealing ring and installation/removal procedure applies as for the "old" bearing cover.

The new bearing cover can only be retrofitted along with the new intermediate shaft up to model year 2002 (M96/03).
