Auxiliary Shaft: Testing and Inspection

CHECKING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT 

1. 

Check intermediate shaft gear for wear. Measure intermediate shaft gear with 4.5 mm dia. steel rollers.
If distance "X" is less than 136.5 mm, replace intermediate shaft gear and drive gear on crankshaft.
If the intermediate shaft gear is marked with code 1, distance "X" must not be less than 136.55 mm. In addition to checking the size, visual
inspection for signs of wear is very important. If applicable, always replace both the intermediate shaft and drive gear on the crankshaft.

Note:  The intermediate shaft with bolted gear is a single spare part and can only be replaced complete.

2. 

The aluminum plug must be removed from the face of the intermediate shaft and the oil bore cleaned to remove residue in case of engine with
many miles of performance or when performing a general engine overhaul (also in case of bearing damage).

3. 

Drill a hole in center of aluminum plug with a 6.4 mm dia. drill and Cut threads with a M 8 tapper. Pull out aluminum plug with special tool and
clean oil bore in intermediate shaft. Then press in a new aluminum plug.
