"Blue Smoke" from the Engine During High Transverse Acceleration

Concern:
Blue smoke emitted from the engine during high transverse vehicle acceleration.

Information:

The factory oil fill quantity has been reduced by 0.5 liters (1/2 quart) to prevent the engine from emitting a blue smoke while cornering at high speeds.

Reducing the fill quantity by 0.5 liters also required installing a new dipstick (figure 1), and recalibrating the instrument cluster with the PST2.

The new oil fill quantity was initiated in production on January 8, 2002 as of the following VINs:

99 52S 62 1921 - Coupe
99 02S 63 5312 - Targa
99 X2S 65 2784 Cabriolet

In the event of complaints of "blue smoke" in vehicles that were manufactured before the above mentioned date, we must check and adjust the oil level,
install a new dipstick and recalibrate the instrument cluster.

All replacement engines for MY 2002 vehicles are delivered with the new oil dipstick.
