Concern:
Lift mechanism of glass sliding cover causes rattling noises.

Information: 
Rattling noises in the area of the glass sliding cover may be heard on 911 Targa (996) vehicles. This is caused by insufficient preload on the holder units
of the lift mechanism. As of October 19, 2004, the holder units and connections of the lift mechanism of the glass sliding cover have therefore been
modified.

Vehicles manufactured before October 19, 2004, for with a customer complaint "Lift mechanism of glass sliding roof causes rattling noises", must
undergo modification. This includes:

-

replacing the retaining frame and

-

replacing the lift mechanism of the glass sliding cover.

The repair kits, part number, 996.562.933.01 (Retaining frame repair kit) and 996.562.906.00 (Lift mechanism repair kit) must be used for this. It is not
permitted to replace individual components (mixed configuration of old/new).

The individual replacement parts of the Targa roof are available in the relevant version for repairs that must be carried out for other reasons as well as for
vehicles manufactured up to October 19, 2004 which were modified.

Introduction: October 19, 2004, as of the following VIN:

99 95S 63 5085 USA

Action Required: 
Vehicles with a customer complaint "Lift mechanism of glass sliding roof causes rattling noises", must be modified in accordance with the Workshop
Manual.

If this modification is made, the specified repair kits must be used on vehicles manufactured before the introduction date of October 19, 2004.

From VIN: 99 95S 63 5085 - Use individual replacement parts in accordance with PET catalog listing.
