Piston: Testing and Inspection
Check Piston Wear
1. Clean removed pistons with solvent naphtha. For detecting the dimensional group (nailed onto piston crown), carbon deposits must be removed
carefully, e.g. with a brass brush.
2. Check piston diameter -D- on oil piston shank with micrometer gauge. Measured from the lower edge of the shank, the height -X- on the shank is
16 mm.
Note;

If the wear limit is exceeded, the piston must be replaced!
The maximum wear allowed on specified measuring point is 100 micro meter (= 0.1 mm). If this measurement is exceeded, the piston must be
replaced. The reference measurements for the piston dimensional groups are to be taken from the following table!

Original pistons from the Porsche spare parts catalogue are only available in the dimensional group X.
