Removing And Installing Oxygen Sensor Behind The Catalytic Converter As Of MY 02

For tools, refer to Removing and installing oxygen sensors in front of the catalytic converter.

NOTE:  Observe precautionary measures when handling oxygen sensors.

Removing oxygen sensors behind the catalytic converter

Left side of oxygen sensor:

1. Remove the air filter housing.

2. Disconnect the plug connection in the left engine compartment -1- for the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter. To do this, pull out the

grey connector out of the holder first.
-

-1- grey connector for the sensor after the catalytic converter (black cable)

-

-2- black connector for the sensor before the catalytic converter (blue cable)

3. Undo the black cable -1- of the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter from two wire retainers and the sheetmetal brackets on the engine

strut.

NOTE:  Expose the oxygen sensor cable so that the cable can be unscrewed with the sensor when it is unscrewed.

4. Open-end ring wrench for oxygen sensor Hazet 4681-1 should be placed from the engine compartment side at the hexagon of the oxygen sensor

behind the catalytic converter.

5. From the underside of the vehicle place the dynamometric key on the ring wrench and undo the oxygen sensor. Unlatch the dynamometric key with

a small angled Allen key, and unscrew the oxygen sensor from the engine compartment side.
