Visually inspect the crankshaft flange and crankcase bore for damage.

4. Check crankshaft flange and crankcase bore for damage.

The sealing faces must not be damaged.

4.1.

Small burrs can be removed using an oilstone (not on the sealing faces). Then clean thoroughly with acetone or solvent naphtha.

1. Install sealing ring (open side facing the engine).

Caution
Tool with sharp edges and burrs.

Risk of damage to sealing ring, leaks.

-> Always examine tools for signs of burrs and sharp edges.
-> Small burred spots or damaged areas can be eliminated with a nail file, then removed with an oilstone or a fine abrasive or polishing cloth.

Remove residual dirt on the tools, e.g. using solvent naphtha or acetone.

Sealing ring not oiled correctly

Leaks

-> Only coat the outer sealing face of the crankshaft sealing ring very lightly with new engine oil.
-> Never oil or grease the micro sealing lip.
-> Never touch the micro sealing lip.

Secure the mounting plate 9517/1 for the fitting tool 9517 to the crankshaft flange and tighten hand tight using the hexagon socket head bolts
supplied.

Carefully slide crankshaft sealing ring onto the base plate at the correct position.

1.3.

Secure the mounting bell of the fitting tool 9517 to the base plate. To do this, tighten the center hexagon head bolt of the mounting bell by
hand.
