Brake Caliper: Service and Repair

Removing and installing rear brake calliper

Preliminary work

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove wheel.

Removing rear brake calliper (standard brake system and PCCB)

1. Open combination plug connection and pull out connector for brake pad wear indicator. Unclip brake pad wear indicator wire from the holders.
2. Loosen holder (M6 screw) -2- and brake line -1- at the brake calliper. Close off brake line and brake calliper using suitable plugs.

Loosen fastening screws -3- and remove brake calliper (with brake pads fitted).

Installing rear brake calliper (standard brake system and PCCB)

1. Fit brake calliper on wheel carrier. Use new fastening screws -3-. Tightening torque: 85 Nm (63 ftlb.).

Fit brake line -1- and holder (M6 screw) -2- on brake calliper.

Tightening torques: Brake line -1- = 12-14 Nm (9-10.5 ftlb.)/holder (M6 screw) -2- = 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.).

2. Route brake pad wear indicator wire (clip it into the holders) and connect the connector to the combination plug connection. Lock combination

plug connection.

3. Bleed the brake system and adjust the brake-fluid level.

Bedding in the brake pads - standard brake system

New brake pads require a bedding-in period of approx. 200 km. Only then do they achieve their maximum braking effect. The slightly reduced
braking effect must be compensated for by increased pressure on the brake pedal. The same also applies after a brake disc change.
