Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

1.
Place transmission lever in neutral position.
2.
Disconnect electrical connections.
3.
Remove operating lever retaining bolt.
4.
Remove switch mounting bolts.
5.
Install switch and mounting bolts.
6.
Install operating lever on shaft.
7.
Install lugs of driving dog into switch.
8.
Install retaining bolt.
9.
Install electrical connection.
10.
Place transmission lever in neutral position.
11.
Loosen adjusting nut.
12.
Install 4 mm pin from US8030 tool set through drive dog into locating hole in case.
13.
Tighten adjusting screw and remove locating pin.

Disconnect selector lever cable at transmission.
2.
Remove range selector lever retaining bolt and disconnect lever at transmission.
3.
Unlock neutral safety and back-up light switch electrical connector by turning white plastic ring clockwise.
4.
Carefully pry off plug with two screwdrivers.
5.
Remove two switch mounting screws and the switch.
6.
Install switch but do not tighten mounting screws.
7.
Install range selector lever that lug on switch engages and move range selector lever to ``N'' position.
8.
Install range selector lever retaining bolt, torquing to 7 ft.lbs.
9.
Insert 4 mm drill bit through lug into locating bore in switch housing.
10.
Torque switch attaching screws to 7 ft.lbs., then remove drill bit.
11.
Press on electrical connector and turn white plastic ring counterclockwise to lock.
12.
Attach selector lever cable on selector range lever.
