Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair
NOTE: There is no difference in bleeding procedures for cars with ABS brakes.
CAUTION:Brake fluid is hygroscopic, in other words it absorbs moisture from the air, which lowers its boiling point. Brakefluid which is dirty or
contains water may lead to failure of the hydraulic braking system. Never reuse old brake fluid. Brake fluid must be renewed at least every 2
years. Use DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid.
1. Remove filter insert, fill reservoir to rim with brake fluid.
2. Mount bleed coupling on reservoir and attach filler hose onto stem of bleeder nozzle.
3. Open each brake bleeder valve, starting with the right rear, then left rear, right front and left front, until escaping brake fluid is without air bubbles.
4. Use a bottle to catch the escaping brake fluid for accurate inspection regarding cleanliness, air bubbles and determination of brake fluid
consumption.
5. Operate the brake pedal firmly several times during bleeding procedures and with the bleeder valves open, in order to remove all air bubbles in the
brake master cylinder. If there is a bleeder valve on the master cylinder, begin bleeding of brakes on this valve.
6. It is recommended to perform a low pressure leak test after finishing the bleeding/brake fluid change procedures. This of course, requires that the
bleeding adapters and filling hose are connected 100% tight.
7. Make sure all bleeder valves of the system are closed. Keep pressure applied on the system, check pressure gauge reading, close valve to fluid
hose and watch pressure gauge. Gauge must not drop in its reading for 5 minutes.
8. Install dust caps on bleeder valves. Draw off brake fluid in tank, install strainer and screw on brake fluid tank cap.
