Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Front Caliper, Replace & Service

1.

Raise and support vehicle then remove wheel on side to be serviced.

2.

Disconnect hydraulic line at caliper.

3.

Remove caliper attaching bolt and the caliper.

4.

Press floating frame off of mounting frame.

5.

Remove spring guide, if equipped, then run mounting frame out of floating frame.

6.

Drive brake cylinder off of floating frame with a plastic hammer applied alternately to both sides using a wooden liner in floating frame to avoid
damage.

7.

Press piston out of cylinder with compressed air, supporting piston firmly on block of wood.

8.

Remove seal using a plastic rod.

9.

Apply a very thin seal of brake cylinder paste to cylinder bore, piston and seal.

10.

Press piston into cylinder in approximately correct position (20° chamfer).

11.

Drive brake cylinder with spring guide on to floating frame with a soft mandrel applied alternately to both sides.

12.

Insert mounting frame, being careful not to damage slides, if equipped.

13.

Accurately adjust piston to the 20° position with suitable piston turning pliers.

14.

Install caliper, torquing attaching bolt to 61 ft.lbs.

15.

Connect hydraulic lines at caliper.

16.

Install wheel and bleed brake system.
