To make camshaft toothed belt adjustments easier and more precise, a mechanical tensioner is installed in all 4 cylinder cars as of model year 1987.

Adjustment procedures are as follows:

1)

Engine must be cold.

2)

Cylinder No. 1 set to TDC.

3)

Loosen nut (2) and bolt (3).

4)

Calibrated spring will press tensioning roller against belt.

5)

Tighten nut (2) and bolt (3) to 14 ft.lbs. (20 N-m).
