Throttle Valve Cable/Linkage: Adjustments
SELECTOR LEVER, ADJUST
1.
Disconnect cable from transaxle lever.
2.
Place selector lever at ``P'' and transaxle lever in park position (push back against stop).
3.
Adjust ball socket on cable so that socket can be connected to lever without tension, connect cable and secure with new clip.
4.
Operate transaxle with selector lever in all positions, ensuring transaxle operation is consistent with lever position.
5.
Ensure that starter only engages with selector lever in ``N'' or ``P,'' and that back-up lamps operate with selector lever at ``R.''
ACCELERATOR & KICKDOWN LINKAGE, ADJUST
1.
Start engine and run until it reaches normal operating temperature, ensure accelerator is in idle position and that throttle is closed, then stop engine.
2.
Place selector lever at ``P,'' set parking brake and block drive wheels.
3.
Loosen pedal cable adjusting nut at transaxle.
4.
Remove retaining clips securing push/pull rods to relay levers, then disconnect push/pull rods.
5.
Rotate pull rod relay lever counterclockwise to stop, hold in this position and adjust ball socket on pull rod until socket slips easily over ball stud
on relay lever.
6.
Reconnect push/pull rods to relay lever and secure with retaining clips.
7.
Loosen adjusting nut on pushrod at transaxle, adjust pushrod so that transaxle lever is in ``no throttle'' position and throttle body lever is against
stop, then tighten adjusting nut. Ensure pushrod fits easily on transaxle operating lever.
8.
Loosen locknut (lower nut) securing cable to bracket.
9.
Have helper depress and hold accelerator pedal against floor stop, then adjust cable with upper nut until transaxle operating lever moves upward
(toward cable bracket) to stop, then tighten lower locknut.
10.
Check operation as follows:
a. Push throttle lever against idle stop and observe transaxle operating lever. Lever must be in ``no throttle'' position.
b. Push accelerator pedal to full throttle position (without kickdown). Throttle valve lever must contact full throttle stop and kickdown spring in
pushrod must not be compressed.
c. Fully depress accelerator pedal. Transaxle operating lever must contact stop and kickdown spring in pushrod should be compressed 13/32
inch (10.5 mm).
Basic Setting
1.
Adjust cable at transaxle bracket so that distance between bracket and rear end of cable sleeve is 29 mm (1.142 inches), then connect cable to
transaxle lever.
2.
Set accelerator pedal and cam to neutral position, and ensure that short cable sleeve fits correctly in firewall.
3.
Adjust short cable to obtain shortest possible distance between sleeve and firewall grommet (approximately 8 mm or 5/16 inch).
4.
Place cable around cam plate and secure cable sleeve on bracket with circlip.
5.
Install long cable sleeve on bracket, but do not pull cable tight.
6.
Adjust short cable sleeve until clamping nipple can be inserted in cam plate opening without tension, then tighten cable sleeve locknut.
7.
Adjust long cable on bracket until cable is without slack or tension. It is essential that control pressure cable be installed without tension, as
throttle switch idle contact will be operated by as little as 1° rotation.
Full Throttle Test
1.
Press down on accelerator pedal to first noticeable pressure point. Throttle should be fully open, but dog on cam plate should not yet have lifted
off, and transaxle lever should be 11.5 mm (.452 inch) from final stop.
2.
If dog on cam has lifted off and/or distance between lever and kickdown stop is less than specified, control pressure cable adjustment is too tight.
3.
If distance between transaxle lever and kickdown stop is greater than specified, cable adjustment is too loose.
Kickdown Test
1.
Depress accelerator pedal past full throttle pressure point to kickdown point, then ensure dog on cam plate has lifted 1-2 mm (.04-.08 inch) against
stop.
2.
Hold accelerator pedal in position where cam dog has lifted against stop, adjust pedal stop bolt until it contacts pedal, then back stop bolt out 1/2
turn.
3.
Hold accelerator pedal against stop and inspect transaxle lever.
4.
Cable adjustment is correct when clearance between lever and kickdown stop is 0-1 mm (0-.04 inch).
