Fuel Tank: Service and Repair

1. 

Disconnect battery ground connection.

Removing Fuel From Vehicle

Note: Use E.P.A. approved fuel storage containers, and be sure to conform with local safety regulations when working on fuel systems.

2. 

Remove fuel from fuel tank.

3. 

Raise vehicle and remove rear muffler assembly.

4. 

Remove muffler heat shield mounted on fuel tank and rear suspension point.

5. 

Remove fuel pump cover.

Clamping Fuel Hose

6. 

Use hose pinching clamp to pinch off the fuel feed line. Remove the hose clamp and electric plug. Remove hose from pump. 

7. 

Unscrew the fuel filter fuel pipe from the fuel pump. Catch escaping fuel in appropriate container.

8. 

Remove right fuel tank strap.

9. 

Remove fuel pump and lower guard as a unit.

10. 

Remove transmission. 

Removing Fuel Filter And Carrier Assembly

11. 

Unscrew fuel pipe from fuel filter. Remove transmission carrier and remove with fuel filter.
