Concern:
Fault code for hall sensor signal short to ground stored in memory.

General Information:
This fault can occur in 1992 968's and some 1993 968's on those rare occasions when the engine is rotated backwards while the DME is activated (such
as pulling away from a stop on an incline and stalling the engine). In such cases, the engine may rotate backwards briefly causing the above mentioned
fault to register in the DME memory. If this has occurred, the rpm's at the time of the fault will read < 700/1 min.

Repair Information:
If this fault occurs, it should be erased and the car should be test driven and checked for a reoccurring fault. If the fault returns periodically, the DME
control unit should be replaced. If no fault code reappears, the fault is to be considered normal operation; the replacement DME has new software which
will prevent the above mentioned condition from occurring. The new DME carries the same Porsche part number as the original and is the only one
available.

Parts Information:

DME control units with new software are identifiable by the bar code numbers on the topside of the DME housing beginning with bar code number
26SA2491 and are installed in production as of September 8, 1992 in 968 cars beginning with VIN:

96X PS 84 0143 Cabriolet
