Reading out PCM display and control unit

Reading from and writing to the PCM display and operator control unit

INFORMATION:

-

When installing a new PCM/CDR in a vehicle, the PCM/CDR code specified in the PIWIS Infosystem should be available. Normally, the code is
stored in the instrument cluster and is read out from the PCM/CDR.

You can get the codes from the PIWIS Infosystem or from your importer by specifying the vehicle identification number.

During coding, there should be a guaranteed power supply for the PIWIS Tester 9718. A battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A must
be connected to the vehicle battery.

The PIWIS Tester 9718 instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy these are the instructions that must be followed. Deviations
may occur with later software versions.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in the PIWIS Tester 9718.

1. PIWIS Tester 9718 must be connected to the vehicle. Start the PIWIS Tester. Switch on ignition and press >>.
2. Select the vehicle type.
3. Press the >> key to move from the vehicle type to the list of control units.
4. Select PCM MMI using the cursor keys and press >>.
5. In the PCM MMI menu, select Control unit replacement using the cursor keys and press >>.
6. Select Read coding data using the cursor keys and press >>.
7. The PIWIS Tester screen displays the message Coding is being read out >>.
8. Switch off ignition and replace the PCM.
9. Switch on ignition and press << to return to vehicle type. For the control units, select Special functions and start the vehicle handover by pressing

F8.

10. Read out and erase all fault memories.
11. Press >> to switch from the vehicle type to the list of control units.
12. Select PCM MMI using the cursor keys and press >>.
13. In the PCM MMI menu, select Control unit replacement using the cursor keys and press >>.
14. The data that was read out (see Step 7) is installed under the Write coding menu. Press >>.
15. The PIWIS Tester displays the message Coding being written >>.
16. In the PCM MMI menu, select Actual & nominal configuration using the cursor keys and press >>.
17. Compare the Actual/Nominal listing. Press F8 to start mapping. All installed audio components are now listed with a plus sign under

Actual/Nominal.

18. Read out the fault memory again and erase it if necessary.
19. PCM is now taught.

Programming PCM display and control unit

Programming the display and operator control unit

INFORMATION:  The procedure described must be applied when a control unit has to be replaced and the tester function Control unit replacement
cannot be used.

1. Connect the PIWIS tester 9718 to the vehicle and start it. Switch on the ignition. >> Continue.
2. Switch on ignition << return to vehicle type, for the control units select Special functions and start the vehicle handover with F8.
3. Read out and erase all fault memories.
4. Switch from the vehicle type to the list of control units >>.
5. Select PCM and press the >>.
6. In the menu PCM, select PCM2 MMI and press the >>.
7. Select Control unit replacement with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
8. Select Write coding and write in the coding. (Even if no coding data was read out, the required data is loaded for the control unit.)
9. Select Coding and press >>.

10. Select Equipment and press >>.
