Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair
WM 422119 Removing and installing drive shaft
Preliminary work for removing drive shaft
1. Release axle nut (vehicle on ground) whilst operating the brake (2 fitters required).
2. Raise the vehicle and remove the required rear wheel.
3. Remove support plate -A- (this also involves removing diagonal braces -B-).

Information: Removal and installation applies to Tiptronic and all manual transmissions.
1. Fit protective tube for drive shaft (shop-made tube to protect against mechanical damage).
Remove drive shafts at transmission side (six hexagon socket head bolts).

2. Use universal drive shaft/wheel hub extractor as of model '86 NR.87-1 to carefully press out the pin of the drive shaft until the shaft can be moved
