Concern:
Timing case cover fastening screws have been upgraded from a hardness rating of 8.8 to 10.9. Losses in pre-load force over time could result in leaks.
Information:
As of the introduction date listed below, fastening screws with a "10.9" hardness rating have been installed on the timing case cover (previously "8.8").
The hardness rating is indicated on the screw head.
When timing case fastening screws are removed during engine repair, the existing fastening screws with a "8.8" hardness rating should be replaced with
the new version screws with a "10.9" hardness rating.
