Engine Operation and Performance Complaints

Fiting:
This bulletin replaces bulletin Group 2, # 8/04, dated 7-26-04. The affected production date was changed to May 26, 2003.

Concern:
Customer complaints regarding engine operation and engine driving performance.

Information:
Software updates of the DME control module, or replacement of DME control module are not necessary. These measures do not remedy the complaints!

The faults must be located and eliminated according to the Technical Manual, OBD II (DME 7.1.1) for the complaints listed above.

Note:

Updating the software or replacing the DME control module will not solve the complaints!

Exceptions

Complaints regarding "Acceleration when starting-off" can be remedied for the Cayenne S by updating the software of the DME control module. The
accelerator characteristics have been adjusted.

This measure is effective for all vehicles up to production date, May 26, 2003.

In individual cases, Porsche have had complaints reported that the engine on the Cayenne S cannot be started after the vehicle was parked with a hot
engine for approx. 20 - 30 minutes. These complaints can be remedied by a single software update of the DME control module with the PIWIS Tester
and installed test software version 1.0/05/2004 (or higher) on vehicles and LEV (USA) emission standard.
