Knock Sensor: Service and Repair
Removing And Installing Knock Sensor
Preliminary work
1. Remove the thermostat housing for both front knock sensors (sensor for cylinders 1 and 2 as well as sensor for cylinders 5 and 6).
2. Remove the starter for both rear knock sensors (sensor for cylinders 3 and 4 as well as sensor for cylinders 7 and 8).
Removing knock sensor
1. Observe and note installation position of knock sensors.
Pull off cable plugs -a- ( -arrow- ). -> Pulling off cable plug
2. Unscrew fastening screw -2- and remove knock sensor -1- from the crankcase.
Installing knock sensor
INFORMATION:

The tightening specifications for the basic engine are stored centrally.

Clean contact surface of knock sensor with a cloth.
1. Install knock sensors -1-. Make sure that the knock sensors are aligned as shown in the illustration.
INFORMATION: Strictly observe the specified tightening torque for the knock sensor screw. Align the housing and cable plug for the knock sensor
in such a way that they are not touching. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that the knock sensor will work perfectly.
2. Tighten fastening screws -2- ().
3. Push on cable plug.
