Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
Fig. 33 Rear oil seal installation.
Rear Oil Seal Replace
1.
Remove the transmission, clutch and flywheel/flexplate.
2.
Remove the old oil seal. Be careful not to damage any machined surfaces.
3.
To install the new seal the use of Renault tool Mot. 259-01 is recommended. Mount the new seal on the tool. Be careful when mounting the seal.
The lip of the seal is extremely delicate.
4.
Lubricate the outside of the seal. Position the tool on the end of the crankshaft and lightly tap the seal into position until the tool touches the block.
5.
If the seal is being mounted on a used crankshaft, mount the seal as above and then remove the tool, mount the spacer (E) and push the seal in
further until the tool touches the block, Fig. 33. This operation will mount the seal approximately 1/8 inch deeper into the block.
6.
Reinstall all related components.
