Assemble and install the valves, valve springs, spring seats, retainers and keepers in the cylinder head (Fig. 24).

Install the valve tappets (50) and shims (51) (Fig. 22).

Lubricate the camshaft journals and the journal bores in the cylinder head with engine oil.

Install the camshaft in the cylinder head. Position the cam so the sprocket keyway
(65) is facing upward. This will help align the cam timing marks during assembly.
6.
Install the camshaft bearing caps but do not install the cap bolts at this time. Align and position the caps according to the reference marks made at
disassembly.
NOTE:
The bearing caps are numbered 1 through 5. Install the caps in numerical sequence starting with cap 5 which goes at the cam sprocket end
of the head.
7.
Install and tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts as follows:
Apply a drop of Loctite 242 to the threads of each bolt and install the bolts finger tight.
