If no fault is found, rectify the communications lead between the Motronic control module and the data link connector.

Check wiring harness.

Jiggle the wiring harness at several points and in different directions to detect intermittent breaks and short-circuits in the leads.
Observe the multimeter, test lamp or diagnostic tool during the test.

Check fuse 17 and/or fuse 28 and change if necessary.

Visually check to see if pins 6 and 7 on the data link connector have slipped out.

Is the function correct?

NO

YES -

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

The CHECK ENGINE lamp should go on when the ignition is turned ON.

Is the function correct?

NO
