Oil Filter: Description and Operation

The oil filter is mounted on the exhaust side of the cylinder block. An adapter housing is fitted between the oil filter and the block. Hoses run from the
adapter housing to the engine oil cooler.

An overflow valve is mounted inside the filter. The valve opens if the pressure drop across the filter becomes excessive, as could happen if the filter is
heavily soiled.
