5. Make sure that the gate positions marked on the knob and the carrier stop lug are correctly positioned in relation to the bearing hole at the bottom

of the gear lever (so that the gate position markings are correctly positioned in the car). Fit the knob loosely on the lever so that it fastens in the
splines.

6. Place the gear lever in a vice. Tap the knob with your hand or a light rubber hammer until the stop lug on the carrier is no than 0-0.5 mm above

the reverse gear detent stop.

7. Fit the gear lever in its housing.

Changing the Gear Lever Bearing (Ball Socket and Ring)

To Remove

1. Remove the gear lever as described in.

2. Remove the spring which tensions the ball socket ring and detach the ball socket ring by turning it anti-clockwise (bayonet fitting). Remove the

ball socket.

3. In order to remove the ball socket ring from the gear lever, the gear lever knob must be removed,

1. Lubricate the bearing with Gleitmo 750, part no. 30 07 309.
