Drive Belt Tensioner: Service and Repair
Replacing The Belt Tensioner, 4-Cyl
Removal
1. Drape protective covers over the front wings and remove the shield from the intake manifold.
2. Remove the crankcase ventilation solenoid valve and constant pressure valve.
3. Relieve the tension on the belt tensioner with special tool 83 95 254 and remove the belt.
WARNING
Be careful not to knock the belt tensioner when it is in its end position.
4. Remove the belt tensioner with an 8 mm Allen key.
Refitting
1. Refit the belt tensioner.
Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 lbf ft).
2. Refit the belt, check its position on all the pulleys and reapply the tension.
3. Fit the crankcase ventilation valves.
4. Refit the shield on to the intake manifold.
5. Start the engine and let it run at idle speed for a while.
6. Turn off the engine and check that the belt is correctly positioned.
