Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Changing The Starter Motor, V6 LEV

To remove

NOTE:  If the car has a non-Saab radio, check that the customer has the radio code before commencing work.

1. Remove the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the hose from the secondary air injection pump's check valve.
3. Remove the secondary air injection pump's manifold from the rear bank on the exhaust manifold.
4. Remove the connector from the bracket above the starter motor.
5. Remove the bracket.
6. Raise the car.
7. Remove the drive belt cover.
8. Unplug the generator and starter motor connectors.
9. Unplug the oil pressure sensor connector.

10. Remove the clip that secures the wiring harness to the generator.
11. Remove the lower bolt securing the starter motor.
12. Lower the car.
13. Lift aside the wiring harness over the starter motor.
14. Remove the upper bolt securing the starter motor.
15. Lift out the starter motor up between the bulkhead and exhaust manifold.

To fit

1. Clean then grease the contact surfaces and electrical connections of the starter motor with petroleum jelly, part no.30 06 665, to prevent

oxidization.

2. Position the starter motor, lowering it between the exhaust manifold and bulkhead.
3. Raise the car.
4. Fit the lower bolt securing the starter motor.
5. Plug in the starter motor and generators connectors.
6. Plug in the oil pressure sensor connector.
7. Fit the clip that secures the wiring harness to the generator.
8. Fit the drive belt cover.
9. Lower the car.

10. Fit the upper bolt securing the starter motor.
11. Fit the bracket above the starter motor.
12. Fit the connector to the bracket.
13. Fit the secondary air injection pump's manifold to the rear bank on the exhaust manifold.
14. Connect the hose to the secondary air injection pump's check valve.
15. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
16. Reset the clock.
