M/T - Rattling Noise From the Shift Lever

Noise from gear lever

Cars affected

Saab 9-5 M98-M06 with manual gearbox and with Vehicle Identification Number up to and including 63500193.

Background

A rattling noise from the gear lever may be caused by the 0-ring between the ball joint and the gearcase being too thin and not fully absorbing the
mechanical play.

In the case of customer complaint, the following procedure must be carried out.

Symptom description

Rattling from the gear lever.

Parts required

55 562 488 0-ring

Procedure

1.

Set the gear lever in neutral position.

2.

Remove the gear lever gaiter from the surround.

3.

Remove the gear lever gaiter's surround.

4.

Carefully press in the three catches on the ball socket using a screwdriver and lift the gear liver up at the same time.

Thread the 0-ring over the ball socket, gaiter and gear lever.
