Crankshaft Seal Retainer: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal and Housing Replacement

Tools Required

J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

J 44219 Cover Alignment Pins

J 44227 Rear Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement (LL8) (See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic

Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Transmission Replacement (LL8)).

2. Remove the flywheel bolts and remove the flywheel.

3. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing bolts.
4. Install 2 bolts into the jackscrew holes (1) to release the cover from the block.
5. Remove the crankshaft and rear oil seal housing.
6. Remove the oil seal from the crankshaft snout.

Installation Procedure

1. Use the J 44227 to install the crankshaft rear oil seal.
2. Remove the J 44227.
