Steering Angle Sensor: Removal and Replacement
Steering Wheel Position Sensor or Steering Shaft Lower Bearing Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (See: Restraint Systems/Service Precautions/Technician Safety Information/SIR Caution).
1. Disable the SIR System. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (See: Steering Column/Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair).
2. Verify the type of steering wheel position sensor before removal. Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering (See: Steering
Column/Service and Repair/Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering).
3. Remove the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (See: Steering Column/Service and Repair/Upper
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement).
4. Disconnect the sensor.
5. Remove the bracket from the steering jacket assembly.
6. Remove the steering wheel position sensor.
Installation Procedure
1. If reusing the existing steering wheel position sensor, verify the type of sensor you have before installing. Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor
Centering (See: Steering Column/Service and Repair/Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering).
2. Install the steering wheel position sensor.
3. Install the bracket onto the steering jacket assembly.
4. Connect the steering wheel position sensor connector.
5. Install the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (See: Steering Column/Service and Repair/Upper
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement).
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (See: Steering Column/Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming/Service and Repair).
