Masts for both Harada and Nippon electric antenna units are replaceable. In both types the mast may be replaced WITHOUT removing the assembly
from the car.
Nippon (Turbo 3-door, M83-; Turbo 4-door, M83-1/2):
^
Motor the antenna until the mast reaches full extension
^
Remove the decorative ball/retainer from the topmost section of the mast
^
Remove the cap nut at the fender opening
^
Gently pry out the black plastic bushing (about 24-1/4" long) from the aluminum barrel
^
Telescope the lower sections of the mast off the nylon cable and mast tip section. At this point the tip section can be disengaged from the lock
ferrule at the end of the nylon cable.
^
Disassemble the replacement mast and slip the tip section out through the bottom
^
Connect the tip section to the lock ferrule
^
Transfer the barrel bushing to the new mast
^
Insert the tip section (connected to nylon cable) into and through the new mast assembly and install the retaining decorative ball
^
Telescope the mast down the nylon cable until it reaches the aluminum barrel. Align and press plastic bushing into the barrel
^
Install cap nut
^
Operate antenna to verify proper extension and retraction of mast.
Harada (Turbo 3-door, M81-1/2-M82; Turbo 4-door, M81-1/2-M83-1/2):
^
With the antenna in the retracted position, remove the cap nut
^
Motor the antenna upward (applying gentle upward pressure) until the mast end cable comes completely out
^
Insert the cable of the replacement mast (be sure it is perfectly straight - applying downward pressure) until it contacts the winding drum and motor
antenna down until cable and mast are in the completely retracted position
^
Replace the cap nut
^
Operate antenna to verify proper extension and retraction of mast.
