SUBJECT:
MEASURING POLY-V BELT TENSION, ISSUE: 11/85-802 ALTERNATOR/ACCESSORY DRIVE
APPLICATION: ALL 9000
The Poly-V belt design of the Saab 9000 requires a special gauge for checking the belt tension. A gauge manufactured especially for Saab-Scania of
America, Inc. will be made available as a required special tool during December, 1985. You will automatically be sent this tool at that time and your
account billed accordingly.
Poly-V belts in general require very little maintenance, consequently the Saab 9000 need only be checked at the 1,000 Mile Break-In and the Major
Service (30,000 mile) intervals.
Do not use this gauge to check a standard engine V belt.

Belt Tension Directions:
Check the belt tension between the pulley for the power steering pump and the water pump. Do not overtighten.
Check your readings during and after adjusting. Small movements in the adjusting nut correspond to large movements of the dial.
Adjustment is necessary when tension falls below the lower limit. Take your measurement at the arrow.
