Third Owner Notification for Recall 278

Attached to this dealer letter is a new recall Completion Report for Saab Safety Recall 278 which was initiated during March 1990. A sample copy of the
owner notification is also attached.

This completion report has been issued by Saab Cars, USA, Inc. in preparation for a third owner notification. It contains a listing of cars that were sold
by your dealership but have not yet had Safety Recall 278 performed. This owner notification will take place on May 7, 1991.

The third owner notification and this attached completion report is designed to generate renewed interest in this important safety recall.

We suggest that you review the Recall PSI 06/90-0010 with your technicians, check your inventory of recall spare parts and review the completion
report. We urge you to make another attempt to contact owners for a service appointment so that you may perform this recall work on their vehicles. You
may use your DCS on-line recall/service campaign inquiry to check for any completions after the completion report was prepared.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL REMINDER - PLEASE READ

BACK-UP LAMP ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT 
1986 through early 1990 Saab 9000 Models with Automatic Transmission 
Saab Recall No. 278, NHTSA No. 90V-001

Dear Saab Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Saab has determined that a defect
which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in 1986 through early 1990 model year Saab 9000 models with automatic transmission.

These vehicles were recalled by Saab last year to replace the neutral/back-up lamp switch and to modify the back-up lamp electrical circuit located inside
the center console in the vicinity of the automatic transmission gear selector. Our records indicate you are the current owner of a vehicle affected by this
recall and which has not yet had this modification work completed. This reminder urges you to have this recall work done as soon as possible.

The modification to your car is necessary to prevent the possibility of overheating of the neutral/back-up lamp switch assembly which could cause smoke
or, possibly, a fire to develop from the center console area in the passenger compartment.

Please call your authorized Saab dealer for an appointment to have this defect remedied at no charge to you. Bring this letter to your dealer on the day of
your appointment.

In the meantime, if you see or smell smoke coming from the center console or dashboard area, pull over to the side of the road as soon as it is safe and
possible to do so. Promptly shut off the ignition and evacuate the vehicle. Do not attempt to restart the engine. If possible, disconnect the negative (-)
cable from the battery to ensure that the flow of electrical current has stopped. Immediately contact the nearest Saab dealer.

NHTSA, Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline at 800-424-9393 (Washington, D.C. area residents may call 366-0123), if you
believe that Saab Cars USA, Inc. or an authorized Saab dealer has failed or is unable to perform this recall modification within a reasonable time, which
is not longer than 60 days after you first bring your vehicle to your dealer for repair.
