Throttle Position Switch: Description and Operation
Throttle Position Switch
Description
The position switch provides the control module with information on the position of the throttle: idling speed, partial throttle or wide open throttle.
In the LH 2.4.2 system the position switch is replaced by a throttle position sensor.
A Idling speed
When the throttle is closed (idling speed or engine braking), the microswitch (4) closes and ground potential is obtained on idling speed connection 8.
Partial throttle
When the throttle is activated, the microswitch (4) opens and the ground potential from idling speed connection 8 disappears.
B Wide open throttle
When the throttle angle is greater than 720, the wide open throttle switch (3) closes and ground potential is obtained on full-load connection 6. After a
calculation performed by the control module, this provides full-load enrichment of the fuel-air mixture.
Starting from cold
If the accelerator is floored when the engine is started at temperatures below -20°C, the control module issues an order to reduce the amount of fuel
injected into the engine. This prevents the engine from becoming flooded.
(LH 2.4, 2.4.1 and 2.4.2 only)
If repeated attempts to start are made, the enrichment cycle will not be activated for starting from cold afresh. This prevents exceptionally generous
enrichment and a consequently flooded engine.
