Hydraulic Servo Pump: Service and Repair
Power Steering Pump Replacement

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Disconnect return line at pump and drain fluid into a suitable container.

3.

Remove pump as follows: 

a. Loosen pivot and adjusting bolts and remove drive belt.
b. Remove pivot bolt and bolt securing adjusting bracket to engine, disconnect and plug pressure line, and remove pump and brackets. Hold hex

fitting on pump with second wrench when disconnecting pressure line.

Remove pump pulley with puller No. 8996423 or equivalent.

5.

Remove bolts securing brackets to pump and remove brackets.

6.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: 

a. Press pulley onto pump shaft using tool 8996415. Shaft should be flush with hub. On 9000 models, ensure distance from pump backing plate

to front pulley is 4.23 inch.

b. Adjust drive belt tension to specifications.
c. Fill reservoir, bleed system by turning steering wheel from lock to lock, then refill system to full mark on dipstick.
