Intake Air Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation
The intake air temperature sensor is located in the mass air flow sensor's inlet pipe and is of NTC type.
The control module measures the air temperature in the intake manifold by supplying the sensor with 5 V from pin 44 via an integral 1 kOhm resistor.
The sensor is grounded via pin 30 of the control module.
The voltage across the control module's integral resistor is proportional to the temperature of the intake air.
The value is used as an indication of whether or not hot starting conditions prevail and also to correct the ignition timing.
Should the sensor fail to work or in the event of a break (no continuity) in the circuit, the control module will use a default temperature of 20°C (68°F)
and the MIL (CHECK ENGINE) lamp will light up.
