Power Steering Pump: Description and Operation
SERVO PUMP
The servo pump is driven by a V-belt from the crankshaft pulley on the crankshaft. In addition to the basic pump, the pump incorporates a control
valve for pressure and flow control. The hydraulic fluid reservoir is transparent, enabling the fluid level to be read off against the marks on the outside
of the reservoir.
WARNING: THE SERVO PUMP CAN BE DAMAGED BY THE FOLLOWING FACTORS:
1. NEVER FORCIBLY HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL AT FULL LOCK FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME WITH THE ENGINE
RUNNING, AS THIS MAY CAUSE THE PUMP TO OVERHEAT AND BE DAMAGED.
2. TAKE CARE TO PREVENT DIRT PARTICLES ENTERING THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, E:G. WHEN CHECKING OR
FILLING THE FLUID LEVEL.
3. NEVER ALLOW THE PUMP TO RUN WITH NO OIL IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM.
