Speedometer stops working

Saab 9000 M96-98, manual gearbox up to and including serial number P56262

Background

Due to varying quality of materials used in the speedometer gear wheel (A) or to initial damage during assembly of the gear wheel in production, the
speedometer in the above cars may stop working.

When changing the gear wheel, place the new gear in boiling water for 45-60 minutes before fining. This will prevent damage that can otherwise occur
when the gear is pressed onto the differential housing.
