Fuel Gauge: Testing and Inspection

The fuel gauge is operative when the ignition switch is in drive position.
1. Disconnect connector to fuel level transmitter, located under cover in rear seat.
2. Measure resistance between connector pins. Resistance should be 2-4.5 ohms. If resistance is outside this range, there is a fault in transmitter or its
connecting cable. If resistance is correct, continue this procedure.
3. Check wiring between fuel level transmitter and main instrument. Disconnect main instrument and three connectors.
4. Connect connector to fuel level transmitter. Measure between pin 6 (black 12-pin connector) and pin 1 (14-pin connector) in connectors to
instrument for any open or short circuits. Resistance should be 2-4.5 ohms. If resistance is outside range, there is fault in wiring. If resistance is
correct, continue this procedure.
5. Check foil circuits at back of main instrument by measuring between terminal 6 (12p-2) and screw marked "F SIG and between terminal 1 (14p)
and screw marked GND behind fuel gauge on main instrument for any open circuits.
6. If circuits are intact and fuel gauge does not work, fault is probably in fuel gauge. Install new main instrument. If there is an open circuit, change
foil.
