DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
Pin 2 of brake lights switch 29 is supplied with current via fuse 12.
When the switch is actuated, brake lights 30 receive current via the ICE control module.
The brake lights on a trailer, if any, are supplied with current direct from the brake lights switch via connector 258 (H8-5).
The ICE control module monitors the bulbs and sends information to pin 8 of the SID unit which lights up the "DEFECTIVE LAMP" indicator
lamp or the INFO DISPL lamp in the main instrument display panel at the same time as a message is displayed in the SID unit.
On cars for certain markets the SID unit contains a message telling the driver to test the brake lights immediately after switching on the ignition.
The ICE control module also monitors the high-level brake light and senses when more than two bulbs are defective.
FAULT DIAGNOSIS HINTS
1. Check that fuse 12 is intact and supplied with current.
2. Check that pin 2 of brake lights switch 29 is supplied with
current.
3. Check the connectors, wiring harness and ground connections.
IMPORTANT: Whenever it is necessary to change any of the bulbs, always install a bulb of the correct rating. The ICE control module senses a
state of imbalance and lights up the "DEFECTIVE LAMP" indicator lamp or INFO DISPL lamp in the main instrument display panel.
